In Punakha, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, the ‘Temple of Fertility,’ and Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang nunnery. Explore the serene Phobjikha Valley and its Black-Necked Crane Center before hiking to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Bhutan’s untouched landscapes, rich traditions, and deep spirituality make it a rare, immersive travel experience.

Itinerary in Detail

    DAY 1 — Paro – Thimphu

    Upon arrival, your private driver will greet you at the airport and transfer you to Thimphu, with a stop at Tachog Goempa to view Bhutan's first iron bridge. After checking into your hotel and enjoying lunch, embark on an afternoon excursion. Visit the Buddha Point to pay respects and enjoy panoramic views of the largest Buddha statue in Bhutan. Next, explore the Trashi Chhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and royal offices, and the vibrant Centenary Farmers Market, where local produce and crafts are showcased. Time permitting, stroll through Thimphu’s main street, the Handicrafts Emporium, and local bazaars to browse exquisite Himalayan artifacts. Following this, enjoy a private transfer to your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure.

    DAY 2 — Thimphu – Punakha

    Begin your day with a traditional Tshewang (prayer) and Butter Lamp offering ceremony at Changangkha Lhakhang Monastery, where monks will chant for peace and prosperity, accompanied by traditional music. You’ll also have the chance to light sacred butter lamps. After breakfast, your private driver will take you to explore Thimphu’s highlights. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, renowned for its Buddhist architecture and intricate artwork, followed by the Institute for Zorig Chusum (Painting School) to interact with students and learn about traditional crafts. Explore the Folk Heritage Museum for insights into local culture and traditions, and create personalized stamps at The Post Office. After lunch, journey to Punakha Valley, crossing the scenic Dochu-la Pass adorned with 108 stupas honoring fallen soldiers. A special prayer flag hoisting ceremony will be arranged at the pass. Upon arrival at your hotel in Punakha, check-in and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

    DAY 3 — Punakha – Gangtey

    This morning, your private driver will take you to the stunning Punakha Dzong, the historic fortress that houses the remains of Bhutan’s first ruler and serves as the winter residence of the monastic order’s leader and his monks. Following this, enjoy a short walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the ‘Temple of Fertility,’ situated on a hilltop in the Punakha Valley. If time allows, drive to the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang nunnery, perched amid pine trees and offering breathtaking views of Punakha and Wangdue phodrang valleys. Here, you’ll find a 14-foot bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara. After lunch, journey to the scenic Phobjikha Valley in Gangtey. En route, consider a visit to the Wangdue phodrang Dzong, perched atop a ridge and recently restored to its original splendor after a 2012 fire. Upon arrival in Phobjikha Valley, check in at your hotel and enjoy an afternoon of Bhutan’s national sport, archery (Dha), alongside the popular game of darts (Khuru).

    DAY 4 — Gangtey

    Today, your private driver will escort you on a captivating journey through the Phobjikha Valley. Begin with a visit to Gangtey Goemba (Gangtey Monastery), a 17th-century gem perched at the head of the valley. Next, enjoy a scenic walk along the Nature Trail, meandering through flower meadows, pine forests, and open landscapes, concluding at a local community school after passing a chorten and Khewa Lhakhang. Enjoy a private transfer to your hotel for lunch before continuing your exploration of the valley, renowned as the winter haven for black-necked cranes migrating from northern plains. Visit the Black Neck Crane Center and use high-powered telescopes and spotting scopes in the observation room to view these majestic birds. Conclude your day with a visit to a local farmhouse, where you’ll gain insight into Bhutanese culture and learn the art of brewing Suja, traditional salted butter tea. Enjoy a private transfer to your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure.

    DAY 5 — Gangtey – Paro

    After breakfast, your private driver will transfer you to Paro, descending from Dochu La. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s first dzong, and Hongtsho Goemba, renowned for its exquisite ancient wall paintings. Upon arrival in Paro, check in at your lodge and then meet with your guide to explore the region. Visit Ta Dzong, originally a watchtower and now the National Museum, followed by a short walk downhill to Rinpung Dzong, meaning “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels.” After this immersive experience, enjoy a private transfer to your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure.

    DAY 6 — Paro

    Early this morning, embark on a hike to one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks, Taktsang Goemba, or the Tiger’s Nest. This trek offers breathtaking views of the monastery perched 900 meters above the valley floor. For those requiring assistance, mules and donkeys are available. After your hike, consider a hot stone herbal bath and relaxing massage to soothe any muscle tension. In the afternoon, visit the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s earliest Buddhist temples. Conclude your day with a leisurely stroll through open fields and villages, or explore the main street of Paro town and browse local handicraft shops before returning to your hotel.
