The same goes for Corcovado National Park, where trails lead from beaches to mangroves to the inland rainforests. In the north, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve sees your head literally in the clouds, the low-level cover lending a mystical aura to more than 25,000 acres of forest.
Of course, the bespoke adventure doesn’t begin and end with hiking in the rainforest. The whole country is a spectacle of natural escape, replete with rejuvenating hot springs, white-water rafting, entrancing waterfalls, intrepid canyon rappelling, yoga, and surfing. Pacific beach havens like Playa Flamingo, Playa Conchal, Tamarindo, and Nosara are scintillating hives of activity. A shade north, Peninsula Papagayo is the epitome of private luxury cradling Culebra Bay, home to the largest marina in the country, a yachting paradise.
A healthy lifestyle and perhaps more importantly a good attitude toward life lend Costa Ricans their pronounced Pura Vida, a salutation you will hear everywhere, meaning “pure life.” The fact that the population shows a marked propensity for longevity is one more reason to visit – this place will rub off on you.
