The Eastern & Oriental Express, A Belmond Train, returns to the tracks in a sweep of green and cream lacquer, its polished wood corridors and silken furnishings capturing the romance of a bygone age. From the cosmopolitan hum of Singapore to the rice paddies, royal towns, and rainforest-clad peaks of Malaysia, this is slow travel at its most beguiling, an opulent journey where heritage, adventure, and culinary mastery converge.
Imagine golden temples glimpsed at sunrise, mangrove channels winding between limestone cliffs, and the timeless charm of Penang’s UNESCO-listed streets. As Southeast Asia’s landscapes shift outside your window, the train itself becomes part of the story, where every day ends with candlelit dinners and nights in the Piano Bar.
Malaysia, By Rail
Wild Malaysia
Three nights of jungle immersion and cultural discovery
From Singapore, the Eastern & Oriental Express travels north into the wild heart of Malaysia. Glide along the legendary Jungle Railway to Taman Negara National Park, one of the oldest rainforests on Earth. Choose your adventure, learn about tiger conservation from local activists, capture the forest’s hidden details with a nature photographer, explore ancient caves by e-bicycle, or embrace wellness with forest bathing, sunrise yoga, and sound meditation. Continue to Penang, where the aromas of spice markets and the colours of George Town’s murals create a sensory feast before returning south to Singapore.
Essence of Malaysia
Three nights of island escapes and cultural treasures
An indulgent journey linking Singapore, Langkawi, and Penang. Cruise to a secluded Langkawi beach for yoga, massage, and ocean swims, or explore the Perlis Geopark by bicycle, tin mine, or batik workshop. In Penang, discover the fusion flavours of Peranakan cooking, explore studios with local artists, or wind through the Old Quarter in a trishaw. Each evening, return to the train for fine dining, live music, and the comfort of your private cabin.
Malaysia Celebration
Three nights of festive splendour
Ring in the New Year in unforgettable style. This December departure blends luxurious onboard revelry with off-train adventures, including Langkawi beach picnics, Penang cultural tours, and champagne under the stars. As midnight strikes, watch fireworks illuminate Kuala Lumpur’s skyline before the train carries you into the first morning of the year.
All Aboard
Presidential Suite
The largest and most lavish accommodation on board, the Presidential Suite offers a spacious lounge, a private ensuite, and enhanced amenities including free-flow champagne, caviar service, and a Dior Spa treatment. Guests enjoy private transfers and personalised journey planning with the train’s General Manager.
State Cabins
Light-filled by day and luxuriously dressed with two single beds by night, the State Cabins blend cherrywood marquetry, soft silks, and panoramic windows for immersive viewing of Malaysia’s landscapes.
Pullman Cabins
Evocative of classic rail travel, the Pullman Cabins offer upper and lower berths, large windows, and all the refinement of the Eastern & Oriental experience in an intimate space.
The Dining Car
Dining aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express is a journey through the flavours of Malaysia, curated by Culinary Director André Chiang. Expect a menu inspired by the country’s diverse culinary heritage including Laksa Bouillabaisse, slow-braised beef cheek with nine-pepper jus, and Jungle Spices Cacao Ganache.
Two restaurant cars, Malaya and Adisorn, set the stage for these feasts. Malaya’s coral and green palette nods to wild orchids and tropical jungles, with Malay batik motifs woven into the carpets. Adisorn pays tribute to Malaysia’s tea plantations, its ombré green carpet threaded with gold in honour of Thai Ikat silk.
Onboard Experiences
The heart of the train is the Piano Bar, where live music mingles with the clink of glasses and the glow of Tiger Orchid–inspired interiors. Sip signature cocktails, such as the Hills of Perlis or the Royal Nightcap, crafted to mirror the landscapes beyond your window.
For moments of indulgence, retreat to the Dior Spa carriage for massages, facials, and beauty rituals inspired by the region’s natural rhythms, all while the train moves through verdant scenery.
Off the Rails
Every stop brings a carefully curated immersion. In Taman Negara, step into a rainforest that has stood for 130 million years, home to hornbills, tapirs, and the elusive Malayan tiger. In Penang, join a Peranakan cooking class, explore street art by Vespa, or wander the Blue Mansion. In Langkawi, snorkel in aquamarine waters, explore mangrove forests, or simply surrender to the serenity of a private beach.
Extend or bookend your adventure with stays at The Datai Langkawi, The Capella, or Raffles Singapore, curated by Tully Luxury Travel for a seamless blend of rail and resort.
