Visiting Mykonos for the First Time

By Tully Luxury Travel | 01-18-2024 |

Private Travel Greece

When you arrive at the decision to pursue your dream vacation to the Greek Islands, Mykonos inarguably shines brightly on the list. Private travel to Mykonos is a fascinating adventure deep into the blue waters and whitewashed villas under a fine, yellow sun, a luxury vacation of mythical proportions, as you drink in balmy beach afternoons and sultry cliffside nights.

Although bespoke vacations to Greece – particularly those carefully curated in advance – can hit all the high notes, deciding what to see and do in Mykonos can often be a bit daunting if you’re visiting for the first time. The best thing to do is to trust in your Tully Travel Designer, who can pinpoint and facilitate everything you need for the perfect trip to Mykonos – boutique hotels, private pools, beach clubs and top restaurants.

Going to the beach is big

The Aegean Sea is a kaleidoscope of fascinating shades of blue and you can witness them all in varying degrees at the 25 beaches. The definitive lists of the best beaches in Greece assuredly include beaches in Mykonos, with the likes of Paradise Beach, Paraga, Psarou, Elia and the family-oriented Platis Gialos garnering top reviews. Most beaches have day clubs where there is a fee to rent the lounger and umbrellas – a good idea if you plan on staying more than a few hours. Arrive before 11 a.m. to secure the best location seaside.

It is not all about the party

Yes, the island has a reputation for revelry, but while that is easy to find, staying up late is not a requisite. Those looking for simple relaxation will most definitely find it and more. July and August bring the DJs and the biggest party crowds, while April, May and early June are a bit quieter – and not too hot; keep in mind that the Greek Islands can experience intense heat.

Don't be afraid to get lost

You will very likely have either a private car hire or a vehicle to drive yourself, either of which will lend you the ability to explore. The little roads that seemingly go nowhere invariably go somewhere – all you have to do is follow your nose.

The town of Mykonos, also called Chora, is awash in narrow lanes, little churches, sprays of flowers climbing the whitewashed walls. The medieval maze of streets is perfect for wandering around, poking about the brightly colored doorways. In the quiet inland village of Ano Mera, history and heritage are the main focus, as you learn about the traditions that have been anchoring this part of the world for centuries. The neighborhood of Little Venice is a cluster of small boutique bars and cafés, creating the perfect setting for sunset.

Get out on the water

One of the best ways to see the island is from the water, for a totally different perspective. Be sure to sail to the nearby island of Delos, which is home to an important archaeological site. Guided tours for a half day or a full day take in all the UNESCO treasures.

Let Tully provide the plan

With a multitude of luxury itineraries across Greece and a complete Greece travel guide, Tully Luxury Travel has all the insider details to identify where to stay in Mykonos and how to get around. Once you are sufficiently loaded with all this information, the next step is deciding how many days you need in Mykonos. And this will simply depend on your aptitude for soaking up the warm sunshine.
